Investigating light

Investigating light

In year 6 we have been investigating light in science.

We discovered that the white light we see is made up of a spectrum of colours.

We made Newton’s Colour Wheels to show what happens when these colours are blended.

You have to spin very fast to get white!

Year 2 plant hunt

Year 2 plant hunt

We are learning all about plants in science. We went around the school grounds and looked for different kinds of plants. The most common one we found was the Dandelion.

Year 5 Get ‘aero’ in Science!

Year 5 Get ‘aero’ in Science!

Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic Science block looking at Forces. We learned about different types of forces and that they are acting all around us all the time.

We explored the effects of gravity and air resistance by making our own landing helicopters.
……and looked at ways to minimise the affect of air resistance that acts on cyclists, by using an aerodynamic body position.
We then went on to investigate how friction works, by testing how fast a balloon rocket could travel along three different types of string. We realised that friction slows objects down, but that this can be a force used positively for things such as car and bicycle brakes and in the soles of your shoes.

We have been learning all about healthy eating and exercise and how to stay clean. We learn why we need to do exercise; to sleep well, to grow strong, for our brains to grow and to prevent us from getting poorly. We took our resting heartbeat and then ran on the spot for one minute. Out heart-rate increased and we needed to breathe more quickly.

We investigated how to stay clean. We looked at how soap gets rid of germs using pepper. We also used UV torches to see what the germs look like on our hands and then washed them properly and checked how well we had washed them.
